Writing fics from Bruce's POV is like pulling teeth. I beging to suspect he dislikes me, which is unfair, because I'm usually much worse and cruel to Jim, and not Bruce. Huh.

Anyways. Meme. Gakked from everywhere.

Ask me my top five of anything. I'll answer in a comment.

1. Bruce Wayne/Jim Gordon, as evidenced by what I've been producing for the past few months. I don't know, I think I've found my fave pairing, it's surprisingly easy to write them. I have a weakness for dry wit and sarcasm, and for awful puns and double entendres that Bruce would make in his playboy persona, and there's a whole lot of trust issues and identity reveal, and every other literary kink I have ;D

2. Giles/Xander. Same principle with sarcasm and puns, and besides, writing Giles is the best thing ever, and Xander is never not fun.

3. Giles/Buffy. My first fandom OTP and first attempts at fanfic, they'll always be special to me. And there's a fantastic warrior/scholar dichotomy that I adore. And I do have a father figure fetish.

4. Giles/Faith. It always comes out angsty and bleak when I try, but it's fun, too. Generally, writing Giles is made of win, and the concept of an OTP is seriously lost on me.

5. Wesley/Lilah. I hadnt' written much, but it's fun to uncover, and I never see them having a happy ending and yet I can't help but ship them, in the angstiest way possible.

Oh, wow, that's a kick-ass one.

1. Terry Pratchett for the humour, and the sense of whimsy, and the absurdity and witticism and sarcasm and irony.

2. Muriel Sparks for the character portrayal, the turn of phrase and simple language turning into something amazing.

3. Neil Gaiman for the mood and atmosphere and the reworking of myths and the surreal and the scary and the beautiful.

4. [livejournal.com profile] synecdochic for harsh reality and psychological portrayal and the reworking of canon into something incredible.

5. [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle for invention and getting deep under the characters' skin and for operating on so many levels of meta and interpretation that it's scary.

Synecdochic's writing - ♥ She's probably the best I've ever read in fandom.

1. Secret identity, in all permutations. From Clark Kent to Buffy Summers to spies, I love good secret identity shtick. Which is maybe why it was easy to become obsessed with Batman.

2. Determined future. Prophecies, time travel, whatnot, but the knowledge of what the future holds and not being able to do much about it, or even bringing it on yourself while trying to avert it. Buffyverse does that, and Terminator permutations, and it's awesome.

3. Origin stories. Going back to the beginning to see how the characters we know where shaped, what happened to bring everything on, I love this especially where the beginning of plot of the original source doesn't explain everything, but then, much later, we come back and see (my absolute favourite of it is Night Watch of the Discworld novels. When Heroes was good they also did that well, in Six Months Ago.)

4. Cop on the edge. I've read a shitload of noir detective stories when I was at an impressionable age, so it shows. Basically, an honest cop in a fucked up reality that he tries to deal with.

5. Purely on a fanfic level: sex pollen, or The Aliens Made Them Do This. But only if done well and with a scoop of angst this wide. Because it screws with the consent issues, and the trust issues, and then you have a lots of awkwardness and angst afterwards. Don't care if it's just porn and a happy resolution, but give me that angst and I'm there.

1. Empire Strikes Back. Best Star Wars movie ever, hands down.

2. The Dark Knight, clearly. For heaven's sake, it's been what, seven months, and I'm still producing fics like a crazy person. I don't know, it just hits so many of my movie kinks that it just might have been done for me.

3. Leon the Professional. It's tragic and epic and crazy, and it has Gary Oldman and Natalie Portman, and I cry every damn time.

4. Where the Heart Is. It's drama, melodrama even, but it's calm and understated and painful and beautiful. And it's amazingly acted, down to every secondary character.

5. Pride and Prejudice 1995 version. Fine, it's a miniseries, so I'm cheating, but it's far better than any Austen movie, it's almost completely perfect (save for Jane, who is just not pretty enough, sadly, not true to her book description). But every time I watch it I want to yell at all the screenwriters and directors ever, saying that THIS is how you make an adaptation.

Five comic book heroes you'd love if Batman never existed.

1. Oracle. Not sure if it's allowed, because she was Batgirl at first, and it Batman doesn't exist, she shouldn't either, but she's amazingly fantastic, so whatever :D. Barbara Gordon kicks some serious ass in every permutation, but it's as an Oracle that she's at her most fantastic, she's frighteningly smart, capable, and snarky.

2. Iron Man. True, Tony Stark is kind of Bruce Wayne as a full time asshole, but the movie made me love him so much! Of course, I'm blanking out all the recent comics, because while Tony Stark as a director of SHIELD is a concept that will never get old, the Civil War makes no sense whatsoever (unless it's a big metaphor for Tony/Steve breakup).

3. Susan Storm/Richards. I'm usually meh about the Fantastic Four, they have no secret identity, which is the main reason I love superheroes, but Susan is an exception, she's fantastically mature and capable. I don't exactly buy her movie version, because I do adore Jessica Alba ever since Dark Angel, but I don't buy her as Susan.

4. Shadowcat. Kitty is my favourite X-men, bar none. I first fell in love with her during the X-men Evolution cartoon, when she was taking driving lessons, but since then, I loved her in all versions. She's smart and fun and exciting and girly and serious and YAY. And Joss Whedon loves her too.

5. Cyclops. He's here mostly because I'm angry at the movies for making him a dick just to make Wolverine shine more. It's unfair, because Scott is awesome. He makes some awful choices, but all of them do, and generally he tries to do the right thing, even if it doesn't always pan out that way, and he deserves better than the movies he got.

MORE COMMISSIONER GORDON.

Erm. Yes. Anyways.

1. Renee Montoya. Because I love her, and she's awesome, and we need more women in those movies that are capable and smart and active, and she'd be perfect.

2. Babs Gordon. I'm not sure I really want her to be there, but I think I'd love to see Nolan's take on her.

3. Selina Kyle. Everyone wants her, I know, and I almost don't want her to be there because of the whole damn kerfuffle, but Nolan could make her fantastic.

4. The Riddler. Because he could be an awesome villain if updated for the 'verse.

5. Dick Grayson having a cameo. I know Bale said that if Robin's in, he's out, and that Nolan said he doesn't want Robin, but I don't need the tights and the cape, I want just a glimpse, dunno.
