if I came with a warning label, what would it say?

Also, if you're waiting for any stories updates, probably no luck until Sunday, because I have a shitload of school and work crap to deal with. Including dubbing over five minutes of a movie which is gonna suck.
noelia_g: ([nano] stormy knight)
NaNo is almost over, and I don't think I'll manage to write something more today, so let's get this wordcount out:

51,940

\o/

The story is not over yet, I just begun re-writing TDK in this 'verse, and I have a lot of plotting and writing to do... I wouldn't be surprised if the final wordcount arrived around 80k, but I will be writing some other stuff in December too, Santa Projects and things, so it will be coming out slightly slower :D

Thanks to: Kubis, for poking me until I wrote, Juana, for cheerleading, and Gaudy and Jane Potter for being in this mess with me: I can now maybe actually read your stories properly :D
noelia_g: ([nano] coffee)
Normally, I lock these under the NaNo filter, but I wanted to show off, so you all get this.

25065 / 50000 words. 50% done!

I AM MADE OF AWESOME. kthxbye. :D

1) Post a list of 20-25 books/movies/anime/TV shows/video games/bands [fannish etc.] that you've had an obsessive fannish love or interest in at some time in your life (or that you simply like(d)).
2) Have your f-list guess your favourite character/member from each item (one person can try to guess 5 characters).
3) When someone guesses correctly, strikethrough the item and put the name of your favorite character next to it.

I'm doing it again. After an astounding success of last year (60,049 words), I've decided to attempt NaNo again, and this time, as one long story, not a bunch of fics. I'm also trying to beat my last year wordcount, and get to 70.000. We'll see.

The story will be Bruce/Gordon, because this pairing is quite easy to write in long formats. I'm also gonna attempt to rewrite a better part of Batman Begins and quite probably the entire Dark Knight. I do have a well-outlined plot, and I hope I do well.

I will probably post the story itself in chapters throughout November and December, but I'm also creating a NaNo filter for ramblings, complaints, gloating, moaning, and all other madness that is NaNo. There will be bits and pieces of the fic on it, too. Comment if you want to be on the filter, please. Your support last year, dear flist, was immense, and I think that without you guys, I wouldn't have managed :)

Title: Five times the Leverage Crew was not in Gotham, no, really, they weren't, no.
Fandom: Batman/Leverage
Spoilers: Leverage: crew, distinctive style, that's all. Batman: not even sure which incarnation is that.
Characters: Leverage Ensemble, Bruce Wayne, vague mentions of Jim Gordon, Selina Kyle and Barbara Gordon.
Summary: does what it says on the tin.
A/N: for [livejournal.com profile] cala_jane and [livejournal.com profile] kubis, who made me do it. Well, Cala ordered it, but Kubis enforced it by the sheer power of existing.

This has been a long time coming, I've been casting and recasting these characters for years, ever since I've read the novels. This is by no means the ultimate version, and I'm sure I'll be changing my mind many times over, but for now, they are my cast, my dream cast. I want this series to be made into a tv show so much, I'd give up any other tv show, no matter how beloved, if this was to happen and happen well.

Rogue Squadron - the elite flight squadron of the Rebel Alliance, founded by Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles, commanded by both of them for some time. Fought the battles of Hoth and Endor, took part in every major Star Wars Expanded Universe battle. They define badass and eat the impossible for breakfast.

Wraith Squadron - a little bit of the Dirty Dozen, the misfits and the freaks, no less awesome for that. Quite insane, very deadly, incredibly efficient. The only squadron in history to have a puppet Ewok as one of its pilots.

If I had Rogue Squadron on my tail, I'd be running too, even in a Super Star Destroyer )

Kid 1: Do we have to do this exercise?
Noelia: Yes.
Kid 2: *conspirationally* It's okay, I've got it. Miss?
Noelia: Yes, you have to do the exercise.
Kid 2: That's okay. I just wanted to ask, in which episode of Star Trek Yoda appeared?
Noelia: WHAT?
Kid 2: Was it in the new one? The one with the different actors? I remember that small green guy, was that Yoda?
Noelia: NO. It was KEENSER. Yoda is in STAR WARS.
Kid 3: What's the difference?
Noelia: Do I have to draw you the graphs again? See, Star Wars was created by George Lucas, supposedly as a part of three trilogies, the first of which, or the second of which, premiered in 1977 with New Hope. Star Trek was created by Gene Rodenberry...
Kid 2: See, we don't have to do this exercise.
Noelia: Oh.

Kid 4: Do we really always add the 's' to the third person verb in the present simple?
Noelia: No, only on the nights of full moon in the months that have an 'r' in their name.
Kid 4: Really?
Kid 5: I think I know that one. It's that sarcasm thing.
Noelia: By George, I think she's got it. *humms The Rain in Spain Falls Mainly on the Plain*
Kids: *exchange tired looks of people who had seen Noelia dance around the classroom and are worried it's coming again*

I got into the postgrad programme I wanted. Now I will not have a single free day till August. I'm surprisingly happy about this, but it may be that I'm high on chocolate I just had.

The classes start next week, but the classes for the MA English Lit (my last year, I'm both excited and sad) start this week. My class schedule sucks and blows but that will not stop me from being excited.

Work is hectic, like every time the new school year starts, but I love the kids I have this year, they're an entertaining bunch.

I'm behind on a lot, especially flist and fics and tv, but I'll make up for it as things begin to slow down. Which may be next year.

Love you, flist <3
noelia_g: ([text] teacher)
New school year has started, and I do have new students, and they are all awesome (I'll get back to you if this opinion changes, but for now, coming back to work is FUN.)

New group, all girls, last year of Junior High, preparing for the final test (srs bsns.)

N: How old are you, Miss?
Noelia: Well.
K (with whom I had classes last year): I know, I know!
Noelia: Oh?
K: But I'm clearly not telling, for I value my life.
Noelia: Well done.

A: Are we going to have tests?
Noelia: Of course not, I'm going to evaluate you on the merit of how good your hair looks.
A: Really?
Noelia: *facepalm*
K: Miss does that thing she thinks is funny when it's not.
Noelia: It's called sarcasm, you'll learn to appreciate it with time.
N: I thought we were learning English.
Noelia: I weep for future generations.

Old group, kids, but with some new students.

Noelia: A, if you don't stop interrupting me, I'm going to do something drastic.
E: Miss always says that. She never really does anything.
A: She threw a paper plane at me last year.
E: Yes, but she threatened to stab you with a pencil, I don't think it's the same thing.
Noelia: They forbid me to kill students in the first week, it's tragic.
New kids: ...
E: Miss says that a lot. She always lies.
Noelia: I lie a lot. Unless it's about English or tests. I'm dead serious about this.
E: And about people not touching her crayons without permission.

E: *surveys my drawing on the board suspiciously* Is that Batman?
Noelia: No. Not everything I do is about Batman.
E: *still looks suspicious*
Noelia: I'm also into Star Trek, very much recently.
E: *thoughtfully* There's that one that has ears like Batman.
Noelia: ... yes. He does.

I'm very proud of those kids, really. Happy to be back, too.

I'm slightly out of whack today, because my new cold meds interfer funnily with my other new meds, and my head is fuzzy and everything is a bit wooly. It's a wonder I can write in English (well, actually, it isn't, I tried writing in Polish today and didn't remember the spelling of half of the words, but I'm completely fine in English. Because my head is weird that way.)

Anyways, what I've been thinking of lately are clothes. )
noelia_g: (Default)
nothing much to say, except that I signed up for even more ficathons and exchanges. Trek is taking over my life.

Also pimping: [livejournal.com profile] space_married.

Someone kick my ass so I get back to finishing groundverse, eh?

Also, new layout. I like it. Do you?
noelia_g: (STXI: McCoy: stupid shit makes him angry)
Jim Kirk feels at home in every AU. He's like: "Oh, Regency AU? So, I'll be a Navy Captain, clearly, and I shall be a lovable rake, but not a rake really. More of a shovel than a rake. Shovels are useful and you can beat people to death with them."

McCoy does not approve of any AU sheanigans. Except that he would look dashing in that Navy uniform, you know he would.

No, don't mind me, I'm just losing my mind. Well, actually, it was mine to give away in the first place, I just don't remember who has it now. All in a day's work.
noelia_g: (HP: Snape: no time for your bullshit)
Internet is being wonky, so I'm writing this post in between killing the net-less time by watching Fringe and writing my [livejournal.com profile] reel_startrek fic (the fic is killing me, FYI, it was supposed to be a light comedy stuff, and now McCoy is angsting and I can't stop him. HOW on Earth do I get heavy angst from a Lindsay Lohan movie rewrite, it's beyond me.)

The new Potter movie was kind of fun. I still couldn't care less about all the Horcruxes business, but I really like this universe when it's about people being snarky at each other in British accents, and Alan Rickman trying very hard not to eyeroll in the background.

He's also probably the only person in the whole damn world who can take the 'I am the Half Blood Prince' line and make it sound, well, not completely ridonkulous.

The row behind me and [livejournal.com profile] cala_jane was occupied by some very fun Snape!fangirls who growled and moaned happily whenever he was on screen, so that was cool. And three seats to the left from me sat a girl who explained every little thing to her friends, and was positively orgasmic for the whole ten minutes following Fenrir's appearance.

(Btw, Polish flist from Krakow, we're going to see it sometime together? Y/Y?)

Of course, following the movie, I may be back on the fanfiction bandwagon. It always goes like this. Any good Snape recs?

Also, pimp: Check out [livejournal.com profile] juliet42's LJ, she's doing the blogathon for Equality Now.
noelia_g: (Actors: Karl Urban: that eyebrow thing)
Bad day. Bad, bad, baaaad day. Mostly my fault. But I'm about to make it much, much better, with some help from Mr Karl Urban.

Karl Urban pic!spam. Dial-up heavy, I kid you not )
noelia_g: (Merlin: Arthur: tells it like it is)
The problem with Writing being the last part of the Practical English exam is that after three hours of exams and enough caffeine, after I've skipped breakfast, I tend to get snarky and sarcastic and try and be funny, which I'm usually not. No, really, the only people I crack up are me, myself, and I.

So, I might have proclaimed that a kitchen knife is a kitchen knife until you stab someone with it (thank you, Danny Messer of CSI:NY for imparting that nugget of wisdom), and that no one outside of sermons and the right-wing blogosphere tells us how to use our beds.

I don't know why I saywrite those things.
noelia_g: (BtVS: Giles: idle threats are idle)
I should be studying, and therefore I am procrastinating like hell. But studying cracks me up, since I'm just now reading up on what Beckett thought of dramatic conventions, and every five minutes or so, I turn to Beckett and ask 'so, what do you think?' and he just stares at me like I'm an idiot and tries to lick my face.

(No, I have not lost my mind, my dog's name is Beckett.)

Also, seen Terminator Salvation for the third time, and I'm telling you, every damn time I like the movie less. I went from liking it a lot to being meh to disliking large parts. I should stop at three, or I'll hate it, methinks. But Kate Brewster Connor is still awesome, and I'll challenge to a duel anyone who disagrees. No, really. The duel will be in Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock, and I shall win, because apparently most of the people I know can't do the Vulcan greeting with their fingers.

Speaking of Star Trek (as I constantly am, these days), this I like more the more I see of it. Of course, I hadn't yet seen the entirety of TOS (but I'm getting there), but I just completed the movie collection (bought the one with the whales and the bus stops today). So, the moment I'm done with the exams, it's more than an ep a day, I'm going on a full Trek binge.

Apart from the English&American Drama exam, I also have the Practical English exam this week, but I don't worry all that much about this one. Contrary to what you may think reading this journal, I do speak passable English when I take a moment to worry about the grammar and stuff.

Also, for [livejournal.com profile] rysiaczek's statistics: kurwa.
noelia_g: (STXI: Kirk/Pike: whistle really loud)
1. I'm getting kind of dizzy and sort of cross-eyed from studying too much (ie, at all). I love my studies, and I actually like exams (yeah, I know), but there comes a moment when too much Drama (English and American, at the moment, from Shakespeare to Pinter) hurts my brain.

2. In between studying; still rewatching Star Trek TOS. After a season you stop looking at the hilariously bad costumes and effects, and start noticing the amazing awesomeness. And counting how often Kirk's shirt gets ripped open.

3. Rediscovering the joys of public transport. (Car still being fixed, should get my baby back next Thursday.) One of the drivers on my route curiously resembles Bradley James.

4. Watching Big Bang Theory makes you hungry for Chinese. Unfortunately, there's no place in my general vaccinity (and by this, I probably mean the entire freakin' country) that has decent food *and* delivers.

5. Star Trek reboot kidfic. Too much? I mean, I thought that Batman kidfic was a bad idea, and it turned out fine (I think), so...

6. On the other hand, IDEK, kidfic? When did I start to like writing kidfics?

7. One more day of this fucked up weather and I'll be very pissed. I have so many pretty summer dresses for this season, but I won't wear them until I'm sure I won't be drenched sometime during the day. I mean, what's with the rainfalls from the clear sky?
noelia_g: (Default)
So, Practical English mock exam from two weeks ago went well, apparently. 100% well. I'm the only person in my year who managed that. I am gleeful and extremely disliked by my fellow students, which is a very good thing to be.

Exchange of the Week:
Noelia: *talks for fifteen minutes about Star Trek reboot, with digressions on TOS, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, and, possibly, sandwiches*
P: Hey, I'm beginning to think you're a geek.
Noelia: ... Your skills of deduction astound me.
noelia_g: (Life: Resse&Crews: true story)
Kid #1: Miss, Miss, I saw the Star Trek movie, and I have some questions.
Noelia: Is this a ruse to get out of revising conditionals today?
Kid #1: Erm. Yes?
Noelia: Fair enough. What questions?

Noelia: Eva, could you read this paragraph?
Darek: *starts reading*
Noelia: Darek, since when is your name Eva?
Darek: Since two days ago. I haven't told my parents yet, I'm trying to prepare them for the shock.
Noelia: ... carry on.

Eva: *draws something*
Noelia: Is it relevant to our lesson?
Eva: Probably not. It's a Mountain Lemming. It says mwuhuhuhu.
Noelia: Shouldn't it be mwahahaha?
Eva: No. Mountain Lemmings have a different dialect, where the vowels are shifted.
Noelia: Oh.
